Thelonious Martin\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n [Super]<\/em><\/p>\n Dope Couture\/TastemakersNJ<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n 4\/5<\/p>\n A Hip Hop ode to\u00a0[Adult Swim]<\/em>. It definitely hasn\u2019t been done like this before, but budding producer\u00a0Thelonious Martin\u00a0<\/strong>definitely did it.\u00a0 The New Jersey native, whose first name accordingly references the great Jazz legend\u00a0Thelonious Monk<\/strong>, used all surreal elements of the late-night show to create\u00a0[Super]<\/em>. Not only does this beat tape pay dues to the humorous series of satire, but it\u2019s also a harmonious homage to the late\u00a0J Dilla<\/strong>\u00a0and all of the\u00a0Stones Throw<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0greatness.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n 19-year-old\u00a0Thelonious Martin<\/strong>\u00a0released\u00a0[Super]<\/em>\u00a0last summer of 2011, but it continues to be discovered and re-discovered by fans. It\u2019s pretty darn timeless, literally. It perfectly compliments activities of any hour with a soundtrack to keeps you in motion and within a slight dream-like state. This is one of the reasons I’m a fan of[Adult Swim]<\/em>. The show is amusing for using social commentary as dialogue with characters and images that don\u2019t exist. Like\u00a0[Super]<\/em>, it allows you to walk a fine line between reality and fantasy.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Per usual, I have a few chosen tracks. I dig the international players vibe of \u201cWith You\u201d and the deep flow tribe of \u201cStay Super\u201d. Yet, I have been especially called by \u201cCharizard\u201d ft.\u00a0Topaz Jones<\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0Mars<\/strong>. I\u2019m feelin\u2019 every second of this track inside & out.\u00a0 There\u2019s something about the guitar oscillations mixed with the jazz piano that completely pulls you in. The affection given off by the instrumentals seems to be very characteristic of\u00a0Thelonious<\/strong>\u2019 beats. He is what I would call \u2018Dilla-simple\u2019–never giving too much, never taking too much from you, but also never ever holding back what is intended to be heard. If\u00a0Thelonious\u00a0<\/strong>was a room, he would have very good feng shui!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n His affiliations with\u00a0Dope Couture<\/strong>\u00a0&\u00a0TastmakersNJ<\/strong>\u00a0are something to be proud of, no doubt. Not only do they make some top-tier threads, but they also stand for something greater. They inspire a \u201ctaste for truth\u201d as reflections in style and the arts. How inspired they are by one another is also very honorable. Like\u00a0Thelonious\u2019<\/strong>music, these brands are for the people, by the people.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Thelonious Martin<\/strong>\u00a0is more than a rare talent, though. He is an absolute reminder to artists & producers that pushing for your highest potential should not be overlooked nor underestimated. As a full-time college freshman and hard-working producer,Thelonious\u00a0<\/strong>exemplifies that both can be done and done exceedingly well, with passion. He universally shows us that balancing more than one responsibility is by no means impossible. Whether it\u2019s taking care of family, holding down two plus jobs, or going through the everyday mental stressors, nothing should stop you from going as far as you can see with\u00a0your<\/em>\u00a0music.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Some people use cartoons and reality TV shows to escape from reality, which is pretty ironic. Still, that\u2019s the entertainment in them. They offer a necessary means to daydream and build a place of wishful thinking. Music provides the same type of vacation.
