I haven’t heard a fusion of soul and hip hop this potent since the The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. The album, Year of 11, is the brainchild of Chicago based duo, vocalist/songwriter Point of Realization and producer/engineer Stereo Mixtrumental. This well-put-together body of work adds confirmation to my long held belief that the best albums are made when a small team provides and executes the vision for the entire project.
The album’s title carries with it a special significance and became the driving force behind it’s creation. Says Point, “In 2017 Stereo and I embarked on a journey to create a masterpiece. I was drawn to name the album, “Year of 11″, after seeing the number for years following the death of my grandmother, Ms. Annie Taylor. In a way, I felt like she was with me whenever I would see the number. Upon doing some research, I realized 11 was not only a highly spiritual number, but connected to ancestry as well. I eventually came to realize that the significance of the number was greater than my personal understanding. Numerologically, 2018, the year we spent creating the bulk of the album, was ACTUALLY the Year of 11. When you add all of the numbers (2 + 0 + 1 + 8) together they equal 11. There were far more connections revealed as Stereo realized his life path number was 11 as well. We felt like it was not only divine timing, but our duty to release this masterpiece of art together.”
Year of 11 stands with some of those rare releases that can be bumped from intro to outro. You’ll find yourself even hittin’ repeat on the interludes. True songwriting craftsmanship and musical mastery. I have too many personal favorites to list. But don’t take my word for it, check it our for yourself.
