If someone were to Google you as a rap artist, how many results would come up before getting to your website, YouTube videos, or Facebook page? As an artist, it is smart to consider SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to maximize your marketing efforts. Doing so will allow more visitors to your websites and bolster your fan base. To illustrate, Roscoe Dash didn’t used to be Roscoe Dash. His stage name was previously ATL. But he understood that the name ATL is synonymous with so many things in Atlanta that it would be hard for fans to find him online, hence the name change. Whether or not you can appreciate Roscoe Dash’s music, one thing is for sure, he knows the business of music. He understands that in order to succeed in the game, you must grasp the concept of being marketable. Equally important, he is a well rounded artist who not only raps, but he sings and writes hooks for other rap artists. In the role of an artist signed to an independent label (MyndState, Zone 4) and a major label as the distributor (Interscope Records), his story demonstrates that being knowledgeable and versatile puts you steps ahead of the rest.

Roscoe’s advice to up and coming MC’s: “Keep pushing no matter what and don’t let somebody tell you that you can’t do something. I feel like as long as you get out there and get the support of the people around you, in your neighborhood, your environment or wherever you’re at, You really have no choice but to succeed. They’re going to tell you what you need to know as far as making your music better anyway. So that’s going to speak for itself. All you have to do is really build a relationship with your fans and build that fan base.”
“Don’t let anybody stop you from doing what you want to do. It’s all about grindin it’s all about getting out there in the streets and making it happen for yourself. Nobody’s going to do it for you. At the end of the day when you make it, your gonna live it up by yourself so make sure you get out there and grind it out and make it for yourself as well.”
