I know everyone wants to sell millions of
records. The reality is not everyone will get
there. Somewhere people lost sight of the fact
that you don’t need that many fans to make a
good living in the music biz. Let me break it
down..
Let’s say you work hard to develop a good
relationship with just 500 people who like your
music. With your merchandise, music and other
offers, it wouldn’t be hard to get each of them to
spend just $100 a year on your goods. Just
$100 a year! Multiply that by 500 and that’s an
income of $50,000 a year. That’s a decent
living. Five hundred fans are definitely within your
reach and can be made with a family and
friends network. Now what if you had just 1,000
fans? You get the point.
Find alternative ways to get heard. The Internet
has destroyed the old formula for getting
discovered. Get yourself featured on other
projects; not just rap projects. Find DJ’s or artists
who create other kinds of music. Drop 16 bars
on it! They can open you up to a whole new
audience.
MySpace has thousands of indie filmakers on
it and they need music. Have you contacted any
of them about submitting tracks for their film?
That’s an untapped resource. In fact, why not
check out what they’re doing and create a song
for the film before you contact them. If it’s hot,
then they can’t help but be impressed and use
it. You could end up with the title track!!! If not,
you’ve still got a hot song you can use. It’s a
win-win! This is how you have to start thinking.
The Internet world is vast and growing larger
every day. This book will save you the time of
sorting through thousands of sites trying to find
which ones are the most effective.
To allow this information to help you in the best
possible way, make sure the presence you
create as an artist is unique. You have to ask
yourself honestly: Would you be interested in
an artist like yourself? Be different! Be a
trendsetter, not a follower. And don’t be afraid
to try something new.
