Independent Hip Hop artist, Dante Fawkes was raised in Atlanta, Ga, and had spent his life surrounded by Hip Hop culture. He’s currently recording for his next solo project, “Alcoholics @ Empty Wallets” slated for a Fall 2009 release. He’s another dope emcee with a great talent.
1. What inspired you to get into hip hop?
DF: Just like a lot of artists, I grew up on it. My pop actually used to own an urban clothing store, so every day after elementary school, I’d hang out there, listen to the Hip Hop music playing on the radio, and hang around all the employees, who were all into Hip Hop as well. And you know how kids are, I was absorbing every word that they told me. All these older heads really respected all their favorite artists and the pioneers of Hip Hop; so I knew that I wanted to be respected and remembered like that when I got older.
2. If you were a super hero, what powers would you choose and what would be your name?
DF: I’d have to go with the power of Persuasion. To be able to persuade anyone to do anything would be amazing. As far as names go…for some on the spot names, how about Ego Killer (haha)
3. If you could deck a famous person in public and get away with it, who would it be?
DF: Paris Hilton, or any of her carbon copies. Because some people just need a reality check.
4. If you were approached to do a reality show, what would be the name of it?
DF: “Casual Sex” And I would only cast the finest women in the world! Need not I explain the concept of the show. 18+, please.
5. Your girl caught you leaving the theater with another girl, give me your best lie.
DF: She’s was the “practice run”
6. What do you love and hate about hip hop?
DF: I love that it’s one of the few things that keeps me sane (haha). I love everything about Hip Hop. It provides me with guidance and gives me a passion to hold on to. I hate how nowadays that a lot of artist don’t challenge themselves. Although there is still originality, you really got to dig deep to find it. The competitive drive has seemed to be more greed-driven as apposed to being driven by wanting to be the illest at your craft. Don’t get me wrong though, I have nothing against people getting paid. I would love to be rich too. But if it’s the money that’s preventing them from creating real music, that’s a problem to me.
7. What’s the dopest shit about your city?
DF: The underground music artists here really have a passion for what they do. Aside from the 20% ego inflated artists that you will find anywhere, down in the ATL, it’s all love. A simple compliment will be remembered a long way. The city itself is growing so fast, culture-wise and demographically. Atlanta is still a lot younger than NYC, LA, San Francisco and other major cities in the US, so we are just starting to blow up into greatness!
